Lotte and the Moonstone Secret was selected to participate in the Berlin Film Festival
Janno Põldma and Heiki Ernits’s animated film Lotte and the Moonstone Secret was selected to participate in the competition programme Generation Kplus at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival. “This is a competition programme of films for children and young people and it is the most important festival for us. We are very pleased by the selection. Naturally, Lotte is also represented at the Berlin film market, where the film will be screened for buyers. Sales are brisk already,” commented Riina Sildos, one of the film’s producers. Lotte from Gadgetville also participated in the Generation Kplus competition programme five years ago.
The Berlin International Film Festival, otherwise known as the Berlinale, is one of the world’s biggest and most reputable film festivals. In 2012, it will take place on 9-19 February.
Lotte and the Moonstone Secret tells about a cheerful and curious girl dog who finds herself in the middle of a big adventure together with traveller dog Klaus, in the course of which they come across Voldemar the pig, a collector of raindrops, three-eared Moon Rabbits who have travelled from the Moon to Earth, Paul the lovesick cat, and other amusing characters. Critics have pointed to the endearing and warm mood that prevails in the film as the reason for its popularity and success, as well as the fact that instead of the desire for power or fleeing from danger, the driving forces of the film are friendship and the thirst for knowledge.
Lotte and the Moonstone Secret attracted an audience of nearly 65 000 in Estonian movie theatres, making it the most popular domestic film of the last four years. Lotte and the Moonstone Secret was produced by Eesti Joonisfilm Studio and completed as an Estonian-Latvian co-production. Its directors are Janno Põldma and Heiki Ernits. Janno Põldma, Heiki Ernits and Andrus Kivirähk wrote the film’s script. Heiki Ernits is the film’s art director. The producers of Lotte and the Moonstone Secret are Kalev Tamm, Riina Sildos and co-producer Vilnis Kalnaellis.
