The animated film “The Stork” won two awards at the prestigious Animafest Zagreb

At the recently concluded World Festival of Animated Film Animafest Zagreb, Morten Tšinakov and Lucija Mrzljak’s animated short film “The Stork” won two awards – a Special Mention by the jury of the Croatian Film Competition and the Audience Award Mr. M for the film from the Grand Competition Short Film.

Animafest Zagreb was first held in 1972 and, alongside the Annecy festival, is one of the oldest film festivals in the world dedicated entirely to animation. This year, the 31st edition of Animafest featured nearly 350 animated films, attracting thousands of viewers and festival guests to cinemas and associated exhibitions.

In addition to the main program, “The Stork” participated in the Croatian Films competition program because one of the film’s authors, Lucija Mrzljak, is from Croatia.World Festival of Animated Film Animafest Zagreb

“Both Lucija and I are, of course, very pleased. Animafest Zagreb is an important festival, and receiving an award there is a big deal for us. This time, it so happened that we received two. We are especially happy about the Audience Award because it confirms that our film resonated with many people,” said the film’s director, Morten Tšinakov.

The film will reach the Estonian audience this August.

“The Stork” tells the story of a man who experiences a moment of clarity and realizes that he is not a human but a bird. The central theme of the film is the relationships, love, and longing between the woman and the citizen Stork.

The film was produced at the studio Eesti Joonisfilm, with production support from the Estonian Film Institute and the Estonian Cultural Endowment.
